Hashbench

Verify a download before you run it. Drop in a file and get its SHA-256, SHA-1, MD5 and CRC32, then paste the published hash to check it matches. It all happens in your browser, offline once the page has loaded. Your file never uploads.

Bench

How it works

  • Stays on your machine

The file is read by your browser in 4 MiB chunks. No upload and no network calls while hashing, so it works offline once the page has loaded.

  • Big files are fine

Hashing runs in a background worker with a progress bar, so a few hundred MB zip won't lock up the tab.

  • Paste and compare

Paste a published hash in any case, with or without spaces. Hashbench picks the digest by its length and says MATCH or NO MATCH.

Good to know

SHA-256 is the one to trust. MD5, SHA-1 and CRC32 are here because some sites still publish them; they catch a corrupt download but are not safe against deliberate tampering.

Every download on this site lists its SHA-256: see OrbitRx and ADB Log Capture.

Prefer a terminal?

# PowerShell
Get-FileHash .\file.zip -Algorithm SHA256
# Command Prompt
certutil -hashfile file.zip SHA256
# macOS / Linux
sha256sum file.zip

How to use it

  1. Open the bench above and choose a file, or drag one onto it.
  2. Wait for the progress bar; all four digests appear when it finishes.
  3. Paste the publisher’s hash into Expected hash. Hashbench picks the algorithm by length and says MATCH or NO MATCH.
  4. Copy any digest, or Copy all for a plain-text summary.

Release notes

What’s new

  • 1.0.0 · 2026-11-05
First release: SHA-256, SHA-1, MD5 and CRC32 in a background worker, match check, copy buttons. 2026-11-06: larger tap targets, higher-contrast labels, no sideways scroll on small phones.

Platform support

  • Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari (current versions): supported
  • Desktop and mobile: supported
  • Works offline once the page has loaded
  • Needs JavaScript

Known limitations

  • Very large files (several GB) work but are slower than a native tool like sha256sum.
  • One file at a time.
  • MD5, SHA-1 and CRC32 detect corruption, not deliberate tampering. Trust SHA-256.

Trust. Hashbench is a browser tool: there’s nothing to download or install. Your file is read inside this tab and never uploaded; after the page loads it makes no network requests while hashing. Version 1.0.0.

Hashbench is free. If it caught a bad download, a coffee is appreciated.
